Popcorn Chains Pop some popcorn and string it to hang outside for the birds. Make a “Pop” Paper Plate Puppet Give each kid a paper plate for him to draw his “Pop’s” (father’s) face! Glue a popsicle stick to the back of it and they have a fun puppet to play with and take home. Call out the letters for the kids to find and then pop! Pop the Balloon Letter Blow up a bunch of balloons and use a sharpie to write letters from the story on them. Hop on Pop Hopscotch Use a rock and some markers to make your own Pop rock for Hop on Pop hopscotch! Instead of numbers write words or letters from the story for the kids to become familiar with as they play. This activity is for older preschoolers who don’t put things in their mouth since popcorn kernels can be a choking hazard, use proper supervision with small pieces. Make sure to include spoons, cups, funnels, even plastic ABC letters for them to play with. Popcorn Sensory Bin Fill a large container with un-popped popcorn kernels and let the kids scoop and play with them.
Start off the play date with story time so all of the kids can become familiar with the book and then start playing…and learning! Pick the ones you think your child and her friends will be the most interested in. Seuss’ Hop on Pop (affiliate link), but I don’t recommend trying to do all of them at one play date. I agree with Jillian–adding learning into playtime is lots of fun! I’ve come up with a bunch of playful learning activities, crafts, and even food ideas for Dr. Seuss books and activities at our house and my preschooler is really interested in letters and sounds right now so I thought it would be fun to plan a Hop on Pop play date for her and her friends.
